Minutes
Dunbar Shoney’s
Board of Directors
Jan. 29, 2008
Attendance:
Rick Archer, Robert Dean, Chuck Spann,
Bob Frostick, Patricia Shaffer, Rodney
Waugh
The meeting was called to order by Rodney Waugh.
Rodney welcomes Brent as the new
Vice President, he has formerly been involved as Vice President of KVAS. He is the longest standing member of the club.
Business:
Suggestions for Blackwater Falls
door prize raffles:
Bob suggested a “Tom Tom” GPS, it would be an item with a
broader appeal to the general public. The previous raffles have made more money
with the smaller prizes. He suggested doing away with the large prize and have
more medium and smaller size prizes. And have a special prize such as a nice
star photograph. He also discussed that a previous raffle with a small
telescope was very popular in the past.
·
Bob Frostick will check out the GPS
·
Robert Dean will check out smaller
telescopes
·
Chuck Spann will look into the
framed astro picture
They will have this information for us by the next board
meeting for discussion.

Bob offered his house, as the
location, for the next board meeting.
Bob commented that the main thing
needed for refreshments is the drinks, that not many people are snacking on
cookies.
In regard to the missing dinner
payments from the annual meeting, Chuck suggested we mention it on the “meeting
reminder postcards” he sends out. Bob suggested
that any comment should be kept simple and brief.
Rick is updating the mailing list,
Chuck is to use the updated list to send out next month’s postcards.
The club needs to work on the road leading to the
observatory. It is getting too rough for cars to travel.
Bob and Robert volunteered to look at the road and see what
needs to be done to it.
Motion
seconded-Agreed- Motion Passes
Bob & Robert agreed to go look
at the road when they go work on the warming shed.
Bob expressed his concerns about the
quality of presentations and the lagging membership.
He has slides of constellation that
would suitable for a 10 min presentation at the meetings and a prize system can
be used by the club to reward members who can identify them.
KVAS subscribes to the “DarkSky” network. Bob has a prepared presentation provided
by them that someone can present. We can get four presentations a year. The
presentation needs to be used two times for us to receive the next one. Rick
offered to present the one Bob currently has. He hopes that better programs will
ultimately create more interest in the club.
Bob scheduled a work party meeting.
Patricia presented the KVAS
organizational chart for the board’s approval. A title stating the current year
will be added. Patricia’s term was
extended two years, to balance the sequence of elections for the board of director’s
seats.
